Omar Khan better be fired if Steelers strike this mock trade at NFL draft

You can't say Omar Khan is not as aggressive as the Pittsburgh Steelers' general manager. He is willing to make headline trades and create terrific draft classes on paper. Many still wonder what the franchise will do to address the remaining needs across its roster. Trying to solve their quarterback conundrum remains a blatant cavern at the top of their depth chart.

Khan has a lot of work to do with only six selections in the upcoming NFL draft. The Steelers could trade down in the first round to gain an extra pick on day two. That's if they can find a negotiating partner. According to Bleacher Report's latest article, Pittsburgh will make a different draft move. Their mock trade would cause the city to go bonkers. They want to win, but this proposed gamble would be massive.

Aaron Rodgers still waits in the wings as he holds the franchise hostage with his slow decision-making. As they await, Pittsburgh could get desperate in the upcoming draft. Rumor has it Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin loves Shedeur Sanders, and they would be willing to take the star quarterback in the top round. They would have to trade up to have a shot at picking him.

This mock trade would result in a disaster that would negatively affect the club for a while.

Pittsburgh Steelers would be fools to consider mock trade at the draft

The proposed trade in the article would put everyone's jobs on the line. Well, maybe not Tomlin's. The Steelers would have to be sure that a quarterback in this draft class is worth such a high price to move up. Odds are, if they wanted Sanders, moving up to this point in the first round would be their realistic avenue. The New Orleans Saints hold the 9th overall pick, so they need to jump in front.

Pittsburgh would not get rave reviews by making this trade. The quarterback position isn't always a surefire outcome. Sanders has gained plenty of hype throughout his college career, in part because his father is legendary NFL player Deion Sanders. If his father wasn't a Hall of Fame talent, it's unlikely that this signal caller would be gaining as much hype as he is.

It would be an ideal landing spot for the young quarterback. If Rodgers does sign, it would allow Sanders to get mentored by one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history. He can sit and learn for a year and take over in 2026. The flub of the Kenny Pickett experiment, however, looms large for the Steelers. They cannot overdraft a quarterback again, and the Steelers' general manager should know better.

Sanders falling to the 21st pick would be more palatable for Pittsburgh in the NFL draft.

This mock trade is an abomination. The Steelers don't need to sell the farm to move up this far for a quarterback who probably won't be a franchise-level player. Sanders has talent as a prospect, but his ceiling isn't as high as some in the 2026 class. Khan would be foolish to consider an asking price remotely close to what this mock trade laid out.
