Olin Kreutz stresses importance of Bears' next offensive line coach

Top 10: Guttiest Performances

The Chicago Bears are still going through the process of completely finalizing their coaching staff, and one of the most important roles has yet to be filled. With rumors flying about interviews and potential hires for their offensive line coach, the dust has yet to settle and, after the offensive line allowed a league-high 68 sacks this season, it's crucial the Bears land the right hire.

One former Bear who will forever be connected to the franchise's offensive line given his remarkable career with Chicago, Olin Kreutz, believes the team could be missing out on top options. During an interview with 670 the Score, Kreutz was asked about the team's process of hiring an offensive line coach, and was more skeptical than optimistic believing the team may not be getting their top option.

One name that continues to be brought up in the rumor mill is Dan Roushar, who is the current offensive line coach at Tulane, and a name that Kreutz thinks highly of.

"Roushar, I hear a lot of good things about, a really good football coach, a no nonsense kind of guy, a guy who just wants to get in there and block people," Kreutz said. "I'm sure Dan Campbell is the guy who called Ben Johnson who said this should be your guy, this should be your offensive line coach."

Kreutz added that the fact that there was no surefire candidate, and that there were multiple names involved in the search, means the team may be on their second or third best option.

"We're seeing that there wasn't one name that they had to get in the building," Kreutz said. "Now, [they're thinking] we got to find an offensive line coach, we've got to put someone in that building to help develop this offensive line that has been struggling, and they have to put talent in that room and create competition."

The Bears have to find the right coach to lead their offensive line unit, and once they have their coach in place, it'll be up to the front office to provide that coach with more talent up front.
