Oilers News: Edmonton Oilers sign forward Quinn Hutson to two-year entry-level deal

The rumours started over the weekend that Quinn Hutson, the elder brother of Lane and Cole, would be signing with the Edmonton Oilers after his team was done in the NCAA Championship game. Although it took a couple days following Boston University’s loss in the Frozen Four championship game, he is now officially an Oiler.

Hutson, 23, led his team in scoring with 23 goals and 50 points in 38 games. This total was also good for second in Hockey East, just one point shy of the lead.

What to expect from Quinn Hutson

Hutson will be joining the Oilers immediately. In fact, he is set to debut tonight against the Los Angeles Kings. This will burn one year of his contract already, leaving him with just one year left. But no doubt this was a bargaining chip to help encourage him to sign with Edmonton.

He is a smaller but offensively gifted winger. His shot is his main, focal skill. Hutson excels playing a quick, touch and go type game, giving him a niche use as a scoring winger.

With him getting into a couple of late season games as an Oiler this season, and he will not be eligible for playoffs, Hutson would likely begin next season with the Bakersfield Condors to develop a bit further. However, as the Oilers are always looking for scoring wingers it seems, he could very easily find himself in a bottom six role providing some scoring to the third line.
