NY Jets' Morgan Moses taking extreme measures to play through painful injuries

Anyone who steps onto an NFL field is inherently tough. The physical and mental demands of the game are pushing players to a level of fortitude beyond what most can imagine. But for NY Jets offensive tackle Morgan Moses, he goes beyond even that.

Moses can make a strong case for being the toughest dude in a league full of warriors. The Jets' starting right tackle is a well-known iron man, famously playing 134 consecutive games before being forced to sit out with a shoulder injury last season.

That streak isn't necessarily a product of pure luck. Moses has been able to avoid serious injuries, sure, but he's also willed his own body to play through a number of injuries that would have sidelined lesser men.

That's been the case with Moses this season. The 11-year veteran detailed the many injuries he's been playing through in 2024 when speaking to reporters on Wednesday. His ability to fight through the pain and still play at a high level cannot be overstated.

Moses told reporters that he's currently playing through a grade 2 MCL sprain, a meniscus issue, and a fracture in his knee. Each of those injuries alone would be enough to sideline other players for multiple weeks if not the remainder of the season. Moses is dealing with all three and still playing.

How has he been able to ready himself each week? It hasn't been easy.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo detailed the exact process Moses has had to take to physically prepare his body for the grueling NFL schedule. Moses has been reportedly "sleeping in a hyperbaric chamber and rehabbing around the clock" in order to get himself ready each week.

There was a belief around the Jets organization early last week that Moses would not be able to get himself ready in time for the team's Thursday night game against the Houston Texans. But against all odds, Moses pushed himself and was somehow in shape to play on game day.

Moses missed two games earlier this season with a knee injury before returning in Week 6. He hasn't missed a snap upon his return despite playing through three separate knee injuries.

The veteran's iron man status is even more important to the Jets given the other injuries along the offensive line. The Jets are currently down their top four offensive guards, as tackles Olu Fashanu and Max Mitchell were forced to play the position this past week.

The value that Moses provides to the Jets both on and off the field should not be overlooked. He’s a consistent presence, setting a high standard with his relentless work ethic and commitment to the game, even through significant injuries.

Morgan Moses is a leader, a warrior, and a pillar of grit for the organization. The Jets are fortunate to have him.
