NY Giants' worst trade of last 10 years shows how wretched Dave Gettleman was

The NY Giants have made a lot of less-than-stellar moves in recent years so it was probably a hard task for Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report to pick the organization's worst trade over the last decade. What Knox ultimately settled on was Dave Gettleman's decision to move down in the 2021 NFL Draft to take Florida's Kadarius Toney.

Philadelphia Eagles v New York Giants

Knox pointed out that the Giants did not make good selections with the added picks they got in this trade but Toney, of course, stands out as the worst of the bunch given where he was drafted and the drama he brought with him to the league. Toney had just 41 catches for 420 yards and two touchdowns in his year and a half with the Giants before getting shipped to Kansas City.

"The Giants moved down from No. 11 to No. 20 so that Chicago could move up and draft Justin Fields. In return, New York got a fifth-round pick and 2022 first- and fourth-round selections.
However, the Giants simply made poor choices with those picks. New York used its 2021 first-rounder on wide receiver Kadarius Toney and the fifth-round pick to move up for cornerback Aaron Robinson in Round 3. It used the seventh overall pick in 2022 on tackle Evan Neal and flipped the 2022 fourth-rounder for guard Ben Bredesen and some late-round picks.
Toney, Robinson and Bredesen are no longer with the Giants, while Neal has failed to solidify himself as a starter. Had New York simply stayed put in 2021, it could have drafted a perennial Pro Bowler like Micah Parsons or Rashawn Slater instead."

Dave Gettleman’s legacy summed up in one horrific NY Giants trade

This was just a classic disappointing Gettleman move. More often than not, the guy struck out when making moves like these and plenty of other trades could have been in the discussion for worst NY Giants trade in the last decade.

This one was pretty bad though. Toney spent limited time with the Giants battling injuries and inconsistencies before he was traded to Kansas City and helped them win Super Bowl LVII. He was on the Chiefs' roster when they won the Super Bowl the next year as well but he wasn't active in that game and soon became too much of a headache for the team to deal with and was let go.

Despite helping the team win a Super Bowl, Toney was off the team less than two years later. He was not built to be a solid NFL wide receiver and unfortunately, Gettleman and the Giants learned that the hard way. Fortunately, neither Toney or Gettleman are still with the organization and hopefully the Giants are on their way toward a successful rebuild.
