Nikola Jokic could play unexpected role in development of Heat's next star

Nikola Jokic may have gotten the best of the Miami Heat in the 2023 NBA Finals, but there's a chance he could do the team a huge favor later this summer. That's because Jokic could play an unexpected role in the continued development of Nikola Jovic, who is currently slated to play on Team Serbia in the EuroBasket 2025 competition.

Nikola Jokic could play unexpected role in development of Heat's next star

Assuming that Jovic makes the final roster, there's a good chance he'll be able to gain some invaluable knowledge over the course of the tournament. Playing up close with arguably the best player in the world doesn't come without its perks.

If Jovic truly embraces this golden opportunity, he could be in line for a huge fourth season in the league, perhaps getting to the point where he's ready to make the jump to stardom.

Jovic can make a surprise leap for the Heat

Even though Jovic's NBA career didn't get off to the smoothest of starts, there's reason to believe that his best basketball in the Association is still in front of him. Coming off back-to-back strong seasons, in which he began to hit his stride as a player, this fourth year could be especially promising.

From a talent perspective, Jovic has it all. On the offensive end of the floor, there aren't many holes in his game. He is an underrated playmaker, can score from all three levels of the court, and has gotten better with his off-ball movement.

While there are some fair questions to ask about his defensive capabilities, it's hard to deny that whenever he's on the floor, he's making a positive impact. And as he prepares for his fourth season in the league, Jovic may finally be in a position where he can start showing signs of his ceiling as a more complete player.

What is Jovic's ceiling?

Even three seasons into his career, it's difficult to clearly identify what the ceiling for Jovic can be. That can be both a good and bad thing. Of course, the Heat is hoping that the best is yet to come.

We should find that out this season. And this season is not just big for the Heat, but also for Jovic. In the final year of his contract, Jovic is going to impact a big part of his future with the way he performs this season.

Can he prove himself to be a big part of the Heat's future? Will he continue to take another step forward in his development? The hope is that all of these questions will be answered over the course of this season.

Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra is clearly excited about Jovic's future. And playing next to Jokic on Team Serbia could give Jovic the strong jumpstart to his fourth season that he needs.
