The Las Vegas Raiders have struggled as a franchise the past few seasons, but the organization remains one of the most popular teams in the league.
The Raiders have been trying to climb back into playoff contention, but poor leadership and roster construction have prevented that. However, the new regime of head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek has already given the franchise a much-needed facelift. They’ve made several moves this offseason that indicate they’re serious about winning as soon as the 2025 season.
This era of Silver and Black football is a far cry from what the fanbase is used to, especially the older generations that got to enjoy John Madden and Al Davis serving as the franchise’s head coach and owner, respectively. Both Madden and Davis are considered to be two of the most influential figures in NFL history, with the former having an impact both on the field as a coach and off the field as a broadcaster.
Madden’s life is perfect for the big screens, and Nicolas Cage and Christian Bale were finally revealed in an exclusive first look in their roles as Madden and Davis via Mike Fleming Jr. of Deadline:
As Amazon MGM Studios began production Tuesday on Madden, allow Deadline to bring you the first image of Nicolas Cage as Raiders head coach-turned-iconic broadcaster John Madden, and Christian Bale as Raiders team owner Al Davis.
David O. Russell is directing the film, which also stars John Mulaney as Trip Hawkins (the Electronic Arts founder who launched the perennial Madden video game), Kathryn Hahn as Virginia Madden, and Sienna Miller as Carol Davis.
‘Madden’ will cover the former Raiders head coach’s life from his time working together with Davis to lead the Raiders to a Super Bowl win to his post-coaching career, when he became one of the most iconic voices in the sport. Madden also lent his voice to video games, and the popular football series has become one of the most popular ones in the space.
There is no official release date for ‘Madden’ yet, but Raiders fans will surely want to see it once it’s in theaters.
Raiders’ John Spytek plans to use Tom Brady as sounding board
General manager John Spytek has plenty of experience working in a front office, but perhaps his best attribute is his close relationship with Tom Brady. The two worked together during their time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Spytek is planning on using Brady as a sounding board.
