Nick Young reveals brutal message Draymond Green told him in front of Warriors teammates in timeout

The Golden State Warriors brewed a winning culture within the organization during the 2010s.

During the 2010s, the Golden State Warriors made five straight trips to the NBA Finals and won three NBA titles.

The Dubs had a terrific system under head coach Steve Kerr, and it was designed around none other than 2x NBA MVP Stephen Curry.

Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas recently spoke about the high-IQ system of the Warriors during that era.

Gilbert Arenas points out what makes someone ‘basketball dung’ in the Golden State Warriors’ system

Winning four NBA Championships in a span of four years is no small feat. The Warriors did just that from 2015 to 2018.

However, Arenas believes a key reason behind that achievement was the high IQ of players like Curry and Draymond Green.

“The system itself is designed around Curry’s IQ, and Draymond’s IQ. If you don’t think like that, you become basketball dung to their system,” Arenas said on Gil’s Arena.

“Let’s say Curry had a bad game, and you check down there and get open, he’s in the corner and you didn’t give him an easy shot that he didn’t have, you’re supposed to make the pass.

“It’s little things like that,” he added.

In simple terms, fitting within the system was more important to success for the Warriors than individual brilliance. After all, that’s what Kevin Durant did during his three-year stint with the team.

As a result, when Durant left the Warriors in 2019, he departed as a 2x NBA champion and 2x NBA Finals MVP.

Draymond Green had a brutal response to Nick Young’s mistake

Former NBA player Nick Young earned a spot on the Warriors’ roster during the 2017-18 NBA season. Although he had a major bench role on the team, there was an instance when he tried to play hero ball.

However, it didn’t take long for Green to eradicate Young’s approach.

“Second game. I heard that. First game I came out had 20, second game tried to do the same thing, ‘we don’t do that here, we play winning basketball here, we don’t do that ___’. Draymond,” Young stated.

“It was in a timeout. I was like ‘damn,'” Young concluded.

Green has always been a vocal leader on the Warriors, and ensuring that role players don’t try to outsmart the team’s system was a key role for him.
