The fact that the 72-year-old Saban texted anyone might qualify as news, but the former Alabama coach revealed what he sent his former Alabama defensive coordinator.

“I know how disappointed everybody in Georgia had to be about Georgia losing the game,” Saban said Saturday. “I actually texted Kirby after the game, said, ‘Hey, this is not the worst thing that ever happened.’

“Most of our best teams lost a game someway along the line, and they responded the right way because we had really good leadership on the team that held people accountable to do things the way you needed to do it to have success.”

The comment was a result of a conversation in which the panel was discussing whether it was easier to motivate a team after winning a game like Alabama-Georgia or losing a game of that magnitude.

Saban said it was easier to motivate the loser.
