The Cleveland Browns and general manager Andrew Berry have a lot on their proverbial plate this offseason.
After the shocking news of quarterback Deshaun Watson's second Achilles injury in three months, it appears he'll be unavailable this season. So the Browns must find a signal caller.
Then, defensive star Myles Garrett made public his desire to play elsewhere and demanded a trade. But the Browns will have other roster decisions to make on both sides of the ball.
Running back Nich Chubb will be a free agent for the first time in his career. It's an exciting time for the 29-year-old, who Spotrac.com predicts will sign a new contract somewhere in the average annual value of $3.3 million.
Chubb was asked if would like to remain in Cleveland in 2025 and beyond, and his answer should please Berry & Co.
“Of course,” Chubb told Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal. “This is where I was drafted. This is where I’ve played the last seven years.
“I’m not sure how it’ll work,” Chubb said. “This is the first time I’ve been a free agent. But I’d like to get it done sooner than later.”
Chubb is coming off two seasons in which he sustained serious injuries that ended his year prematurely. And that could be costing him money.
After sustaining a gruesome knee injury in 2023 that required two surgeries, he came back in Week 7 of 2024. But then he broke his foot in December.
He's played a combined 10 games in 2023 and 2024. It's possible that the Browns his best option in 2024 whether it's as a starter or a backup.
