Nicolas Roy was given a five-minute major and a game penalty for a cross-check to the face on Thursday, and now he's learned his suspension fate.
The Pacific Division showdown between Vegas and Edmonton on Thursday night in Game 2 had plenty of action and plenty of drama, and as the game went to overtime, the fate of this series hung in the balance.
Unfortunately for Vegas, the game turned on its head when veteran Nicolas Roy decided that the best course of action would be to cross-check his opponent directly to the face, with many believing a suspension could be on the way for the shockingly ill-disciplined play.
While the puck was in the air in front of him, Roy could have clearly played it with his hand, but instead he chose to cross-check his opponent to the face, and today, it cost him in a big way; but not via a suspension.
On Friday, the NHL's Department of Player Safety officially handed down their ruling, and with a clear violation, Roy will pay a fine of $7,812.50, the maximum allowable under the CBA.
Earlier this season, Connor McDavid was suspended for the exact same action. This time, however, Nicolas Roy avoids suspension.
As the series shifts to Edmonton, Roy will remain in the lineup, while the Golden Knights desperately try to stave off a 2-0 deficit.
Ultimately, this series is all in favour of the Oilers right now, and the Golden Knights will need plenty of things to go their way if they are to get back into this Western Conference Semi-Finals matchup.
