The Stanley Cup Finals between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers is heating up. The frozen ice inside Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida played host to a drama-filled Game 4.
The Oilers, trailing 2-1 heading into Thursday night's game, looked like their season was on the brink after just 20 minutes of action. The Panthers took a dominant 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
However, just 20 minutes later, Game 4 was tied 3-3. And after trading goals in the third period, including a dramatic, game-tying goal with just 19.5 seconds remaining in regulation, the Panthers sent the game to overtime
This set the stage for NHL history. Oilers center, Leon Draisaitl, took assists from Vasily Podkolzin and Mattias Ekholm and put a backhand in the back of the net, beating Sergei Bobrovsky for the game-winning, OT goal.
The thrilling, OT winner, Draisaitl's fourth of this postseason, broke the NHL record for most OT goals in a single postseason. The NHL was quick to make the historic announcement following Game 4.
The goal was Draisaitl's second OT goal in this Stanley Cup Finals (Game 1) and fourth of the postseason. The first came in Game 4 of the first round against the Los Angeles Kings. The other came in Game 4 of the second round against the Las Vegas Knights.
The Stanley Cup Finals is now tied 2-2 and will head back to Edmonton for Game 5 on Saturday. The puck will drop inside Rogers Place at 8:00 p.m. EDT on TNT, truTV, and Max when Draisaitl will look to put even more distance between his new NHL record and everyone else.
