The NFL is cracking down on fines this year. Anytime a player gets a penalty for something he did wrong during the game, the league uses that to fine the players a large sum of money, depending on how bad the offense was.
In the case of the Denver Broncos, two players got fined this week, after not having any last week. But the week before that, three players got fines of up to $30 thousand when you add it all up, and those three players were guys that aren't really being paid a ton of money when you look at the rest of the league.
This week it's two players, and one of them is a repeat offender from Week 5. This fine is from something that occurred last week. Let's say that defensive lineman Malcolm Roach is getting some bad news from the NFL that he doesn't want to hear.
Denver Broncos' Malcolm Roach fined
According to NFL.com on their gameday operations and fines page, Roach is being fined $14,069 for an Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty which was when he made a "violent gesture" in the third quarter with five-ish minutes left in the quarter.
In Week 5, he had an Unnecessary Roughness (late hit) penalty which he was fined $11,255. That's two times in three weeks, and I'm sure he won't be too happy with it either.
Roach did that against the New Orleans Saints last week. Now, they are set to play the Carolina Panthers this week in what should be an easy game before they play the Kansas City Chiefs next week, and then the Atlanta Falcons in what makes up a two-game stretch of two tough teams.
