NFL is finally noticing the Bills player who always protects Josh Allen

It's about time he gets some recognition.

When you think of the Buffalo Bills, whether you are a casual or die-hard fan, Josh Allen should be the first player that comes to mind. He is the face of the franchise and a dynamite superstar who won his first MVP award from the 2024 season. Coming off a fresh six-year, $330 million deal ($250 million in guarantees), Allen is looking to lead the Bills to their first Super Bowl.

One of the reasons why Allen was able to put MVP numbers last season was because of his protection he had in front of him. From left to right, the Bills’ offensive line managed to protect Allen as he was only sacked 14 times (a career-best for Allen). Dion Dawkins, David Edwards, Connor McGovern, O’Cyrus Torrence, and Spencer Brown were the best line of protection that Allen has had in his career. They are all returning for 2025.

Josh Allen's true protector is finally getting noticed

Matt Holder from Bleacher Report recently listed every NFL team’s “best-kept secret” heading into OTAs and Bills’ right tackle Spencer Brown has the pleasure of being listed for Buffalo, giving him the recognition he deserves after a solid last two years protecting Allen. Here's what Holder said about Brown:

"According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed just 17 pressures and earned a 78.5 run-blocking grade during the regular season. Granted, the five-year pro isn’t a secret to the Bills as they gave him a four-year, $72 million contract extension last September."
Matt Holder, Bleacher Report

Brown doesn’t just protect Allen during a play, he is usually always the first player to defend Allen if he takes a big and/or unnecessary hit. Brown makes it clear that he will protect his quarterback at all costs. As an offensive lineman, you should always be looking to protect the face of the franchise at any costs. Brown does that very well.

After a bit of a rough start to his career, Brown has been coached up well by Aaron Kromer, the Bills’ offensive line coach, and he has improved his pass protection to go with his already great run-blocking ability. Let’s hope that Brown can continue his progression and help Buffalo’s offensive line become the best in 2025.
