NFL hits Commanders veteran with news he doesn't want to hear heading into Week 10 matchup against Steelers

Dorance Armstrong is having a pretty solid year with the Washington Commanders (7-2), but the NFL just hit him with some news he doesn't want to hear heading into the team's Week 10 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers (6-2).

The NFL fined Armstrong $16,883 for a roughing the passer, specifically, a blow to the head/neck area when he collided with New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones with 14:04 left in the second half of the Commanders' 27-22 Week 9 win. Armstrong was flagged during the game and the Giants eventually kicked a field goal after driving 15 plays down the field.

Armstrong is just the third Commanders player to receive a fine in 2024. Running back Jeremy McNichols was fined back in Week 4 for a "violent gesture" that included pretending to shoot an arrow into the crowd and guard Sam Cosmi was fined last week for unnecessary roughness. This is the first time that Commanders players have been fined in back-to-back weeks.

Armstrong is currently third on the team with 3.0 sacks. He recorded all three sacks over the course of the first five games of the season, but has been quiet, since. One reason why could be the ribs injury he suffered in Week 6 against the Baltimore Ravens that held him out against the Carolina Panthers the next week.

It hasn't affected his playing time, evidenced by the fact he's played more over the last two weeks than he has all year, but that doesn't mean the injury is holding him back in terms of on-field production.

Either way, Armstrong will look to end his three-game drought this week against Russell Wilson and co. when the Steelers come to town.
