It was pretty annoying to Baltimore Ravens fans when NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky declared the NFL MVP race over in Week 15, crowning Bills quarterback Josh Allen as the obvious victor. Ravens fans, and most NFL fans, know that Lamar Jackson is still very much in the race and he's showing why the MVP conversation should still be happening after what he's done to the Houston Texans on Christmas Day.
Of course, most of us know the real reason why Jackson is being cast aside in the MVP race, and it's that he already has two MVP awards on his résumé while Allen has zero. It's not entirely fair but that's sadly going to be taken into consideration when the recipient is selected. The committee should take into consideration that Jackson's Ravens beat Allen's Bills handily earlier in the season but that game taking place near the beginning of the season is why that won't be a possible tiebreaker.
NFL fans clearly don't agree that Allen is the runaway MVP for the 2024 season though and they were sounding off during the Ravens' Christmas game beatdown of the Texans.
NFL fans don't think Lamar Jackson should be counted out of MVP race
If Orlovsky hadn't declared the race over, other people wouldn't have started thinking that way. Just because one former NFL quarterback and current NFL analyst says that Allen has won the award doesn't make it true. Jackson should still be very much in the race.
Preach.
Hey, Adam Schefter is on board with not declaring the race over and including Jackson in the mix so that's something.
That's what crazy about what Jackson has done this season. He's doing everything so effortlessly.
And finally...
No, it wasn't, Dan! YOU said it was over. No one else did.
Both Jackson and Allen have put together sensational seasons but let's be real here, folks -- If Jackson didn't already have two MVPs and the slate was wiped clean, Allen wouldn't be leading the pack here. Sadly though, Allen not having an MVP on his résumé is probably what's going to put him on top in the race.
