The New York Giants drafted RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. out of Purdue Univerity with the 166th pick in the 5th round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
While he may have fallen to day three of the draft, two A to Z Sports NFL Draft analysts believe that the RB could end up being a day one starter for the Giants.
James Foster and I (Destin Adams) gave out rookie superlatives for the 2024 NFL Draft on our show "The Football Room" and had great things to say about Tracy Jr.
One of the topics covered in this episode was each host picking a player selected in each round of day three as the "Most likely Day-1 Starter". For the 5th round, I chose the Giant's selection of RB Tryone Tracy Jr. (17:40 time stamp in the episode). Here is part of my reasoning for selecting Tracy Jr.
"He's basically competing with Devon Singletary. I think both are good pass catchers, and Singletary had a decent year last year, by far his best season. I just have a hard time seeing a guy like Tracy not winnin that job, who has more juice out of the backfield, better in and out of his cuts, better between the tackles guy even as a converted WR."
While James Foster didn't select Tracy Jr. for this category, he also gave his thoughts on the selection.
"Totally with you on Tracy, I really like Tracy he should not have fallen to the 5th round. He's got that dual-threat skill set and a lot better running between the tackles than you'd expect. He's just so creative out in open space finding rushing lanes and getting out of traffic, I'm a big fan of Tracy."
