NFL analyst offers tempting Commanders trade package to acquire Garrett Wilson

This is speculation season around the NFL. Fans are dreaming big heading into the recruitment period, hoping their teams can make the bold moves needed to improve their chances of reaching the playoffs or perhaps even lifting the Super Bowl when it's all said and done.

The Washington Commanders' passionate support is no different. They are newly expectant after the team took a significant leap forward in their first season under head coach Dan Quinn. General manager Adam Peters also has an abundance of resources at his disposal to raise optimism further.

Peters has a plan in place. The Commanders are ahead of schedule after reaching the final four, but it would be surprising if big changes didn't arrive once again in 2025. That might be harsh on some who gave a significant amount to Washington's cause. Even so, sentiment cannot enter the equation in pursuit of improvements.

Washington won't leave anything to chance. Peters will turn every stone to find the right additions. Whether that's in free agency, the draft, or perhaps another bold trade should come under consideration if the right opportunities present themselves.

This is something Peters has done once already. The Commanders pulled off a daring trade to acquire cornerback Marshon Lattimore before the 2024 deadline. The front-office leader won't hesitate to do so again if he believes it can benefit the organization.

NFL analyst offers tempting Commanders' trade proposal for Garrett Wilson

One NFL analyst put together an enticing package to provide quarterback sensation Jayden Daniels with another productive weapon in the passing game. Gary Davenport from The Bleacher Report thought wide receiver Garrett Wilson could be acquired by the Commanders. He also thought it would take two draft picks this year and next to get any deal over the line.

Trading [Garrett] Wilson would be a tough pill to swallow. But as good as he is, the Jets need a quarterback. Combining Washington's No. 29 overall pick with their No. 7 overall pick would give Gang Green a better chance at moving up if they're enamored with one of the top rookies. It'd be worth surrendering the 29th overall pick to gain a proven wide receiver who would (along with former college teammate Terry McLaurin) give the Commanders one of the better one-two punches at wideout in the league. Boy, the Aaron Rodgers era in New York has really been something.Gary Davenport

The Commanders are picking lower down the pecking order than most fans are accustomed to seeing. Their No. 29 overall selection could be expendable if an immediate difference-maker became available in the trade market. Wilson is all that and more.

Washington is not going to get a player as good as Wilson with the pick in this year's draft. It's not going to happen, unfortunately. If that's all it takes to prise the former Ohio State standout from the New York Jets, it's something to seriously contemplate.

It's also worth remembering that Wilson is still on his rookie deal, which only sweetens the pot. He could end up staying at MetLife Stadium following the appointment of head coach Aaron Glenn, but it remains uncertain until further notice.

Slotting Wilson opposite second-team All-Pro Terry McLaurin represents a mouthwatering proposition for the Commanders. It gives Daniels a prolific one-two punch at the wideout spot to depend upon long-term. This scenario would be a nightmare for opposing defenses to counteract.

It's nice to think about. Whether it's something that Peters considers is debatable.
