NFL adds insult to injury to Chiefs WR Skyy Moore following his placement on injured reserve

The NFL has fined Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Skyy Moore $9,356.83 for unnecessary roughness against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8.

The incident occurred late in the third quarter between Moore and 49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir when the two got into a scuffle. Both players apparently landed enough blows to warrant receiving fines. Lenoir's fine was higher than Moore's, coming in at $11,817.

Neither player was penalized for the altercation. The letter of the law is any form of striking, kicking or kneeing another player. Anytime that occurs, a fine will be handed down, no matter how mild it may seem. The NFL has been cracking down on any semblance of fighting for the last couple of years.

This is insult to injury for Moore, as he was placed on injured reserve earlier this week with a core muscle injury. He could possibly miss the remainder of the 2024 season, joining fellow receiver Rashee Rice and possibly Hollywood Brown. If so, Moore will finish his third year without recording a single reception.

After showing a bit of promise during his rookie season in 2022, The former second-round pick has been majorly disappointing over the past two years. Despite playing 182 more snaps than he did in 2022, Moore caught one less pass in 2023. In 35 total games played, he has just 43 catches for 494 yards and one touchdown.

Moore's future in Kansas City is very much in doubt. He has one year remaining on his rookie contract, but it wouldn't hurt the Chiefs much at all financially to cut him. It seems that parting ways would be best for parties, but perhaps the Chiefs give him one last shot to put it together. If not, somebody will give Moore a chance at a fresh start and try to fit him in their system.
