Newly Added Chiefs Playmaker Has Big Plans for 2025 Season

The Kansas City Chiefs have made a ton of changes on the roster this offseason. They have added Jerry Tillery, Gardner Minshew, Kristian Fulton, Elijah Mitchell, and Jaylon Moore in free agency.

What Does Adding RB Elijah Mitchell Mean for the Chiefs?

Kansas City will also use the NFL Draft as an asset to improve their roster, but one of these additions is already looking forward to the 2025 season. Mitchell met with team reporters last week via Zoom for the first time. During that call, he talked about a disappointing 2024 and is looking ahead to next season.

Mitchell said, "It was very challenging. Just having the love for football and not being able to step on the field and compete against the best, it really weighed on me a lot. I'm hungrier than ever, and I'm ready to roll."

Elijah Mitchell is Ready for a Bounce Back 2025 Season

Mitchell landed with the Chiefs on a one-year, $2.5 million deal with $1.35 million guaranteed. He will get a chance to compete in a backfield that features Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco.

During the 2023 season with the 49ers, Mitchell played in 11 games but didn't have much of an impact. He posted 75 carries for 281 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, in 2024, he missed the entire campaign with a hamstring injury.

Being away from the game took a toll on him mentally, but suiting up for the Chiefs will give him a boost of energy. As a rookie in 2021, he showed a ton of potential. Mitchell had 963 rushing yards and five touchdowns across 10 starts.

While he won't be the workhorse in Kansas City, he'll get a chance to fight for a roster spot during training camp and preseason to carve out a role for himself in 2025. Mitchell has a chip on his shoulder, and that will give him some extra motivation.
