The New York Giants received a disappointing injury update on prized rookie running back Cam Skattebo ahead of their first preseason game.

Per Giants reporter Dan Duggan of The Athletic, head coach Brian Daboll said that Cam Skattebo suffered a “setback” with a hamstring injury and is listed as “day-to-day.” Duggan noted that Skattebo is likely to miss some time.

The Giants begin preseason action against the Buffalo Bills next Saturday (1:00 p.m. EST), followed by contests with the New York Jets and New England Patriots on Aug. 16 and Aug. 21, respectively.

New York drafted the Arizona State running back in the fourth round (105th overall) following an excellent final season of college. Cam Skattebo earned First-team All-American honors after rushing for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns to go along with 605 receiving yards and three receiving TDs.

Cam Skattebo Should Get Plenty Of Action As A Rookie

Tyrone Tracy Jr. had a strong rookie season on a lousy Giants team last year, rushing for 839 yards and five touchdowns. He’ll surely open the season as the Giants No. 1 RB, but expect Skattebo to get his fair share of carries as well.

Skattebo is a powerful bruising back who does plenty of damage as a receiver, too, so expect Daboll to use him aplenty this season.
