New York Giants get last-minute reinforcements ahead of 2025 training camp to add competition on defense

With training camp just on the horizon, all 32 NFL teams are gearing up to get back to live action. Before we know it, these rosters are going to get trimmed down, and the entirety of the football landscape will become a lot clearer.

Tennessee Titans safety K'Von Wallace (35) heads to the field before a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024.

Even before things have officially kicked off, the New York Giants made an interesting move on Tuesday to add to their safety depth chart. ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler reported that the Giants had reached an agreement with five-year pro K'Von Wallace. The former Clemson star spent the 2024 season with the Seattle Seahawks.

There is a previous connection between Wallace and the Giants, and more specifically with defensive coordinator Shane Bowen. Wallace played for Bowen back in 2023 with the Titans, where he started seven games with Bowen as the Titans' defensive coordinator.

Before the Seahawks, Wallace had also spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Arizona Cardinals, and Tennessee Titans. During his five years in the league, he was able to play in 71 total games, including 19 starts. Wallace has been able to record 168 total tackles, one interception, eight pass breakups, and two tackles for loss during that stretch.

Wallace was originally drafted by the Eagles in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. A former Clemson standout, and national champion, Wallace left a huge mark with the program. He finished his Clemson career with 156 total tackles, five interceptions, 16 pass breakups, and two sacks. Wallace was viewed as a Swiss Army knife coming out of Clemson, possessing a ton of versatility.

During the course of his NFL career so far, Wallace has been a solid contributor with multiple teams. That wasn't true during his one season with the Seahawks, the least productive of his career so far. If he can make the Giants roster, there is some hope that he can make a much larger impact.

Wallace does walk into an interesting safety depth chart in New York, including former Miami Dolphins Pro Bowler Jevon Holland, who is entering his first year with the team. Besides Holland, Wallace will be competing with the likes of Tyler Nubin, Dane Belton, Anthony Johnson Jr., Makari Paige, and Raheem Layne. The hope is that the versatility that Wallace brings could allow him to find a sticking point.
