The New York Giants are 0-1 to start the 2024 season and the Pittsburgh Steelers are 1-0 to start the 2024 season. New York and Pittsburgh are two franchises that have had a tough time trying to find permanent replacements at the quarterback position after Eli Manning and Ben Roethlisberger retired.
The Giants and the Steelers are two of the most iconic franchises in the entire NFL. New York missed the playoffs last season and Pittsburgh made the playoffs last season.
Fansided Thinks That the New York Giants Should Trade For Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Russell Wilson
Fansided writer Mark Powell thinks that the Giants and the Steelers should do a trade with each other. He thinks that the New York Giants should acquire quarterback Russell Wilson and a 2025 sixth-round pick from the Pittsburgh Steelers for a 2025 fourth-round pick.
Last week, Wilson was out due to injury and Justin Fields started and played well enough in an 18-10 win for the Steelers over the Atlanta Falcons. Mark Powell said:
“The Steelers won the first game of their season against the Atlanta Falcons. While the offense was lacking in the red zone, Justin Fields played reasonably well and did not turn the ball over. There is an argument to be made that Fields played better than Russell Wilson would have performed. With Fields at the helm and a strong running game alongside him, the Steelers ceiling is higher than it otherwise would be with Wilson. Because of this, they should consider their options.
The Giants aren’t better with Wilson by any means, but it gives them another options besides Jones. If DJ struggles the next few weeks, they could easily call Pittsburgh about Wilson’s availability.”
The New York Giants should not wait much longer to find a Daniel Jones replacement if they want to win games this season. If they were to lose against the Washington Commanders on Sunday, the Giants have to consider a quarterback change to Drew Lock, Tommy DeVito, or look elsewhere.
Russell Wilson Visited This Offseason
At one point this offseason, Russell Wilson was in the Giants building. The question is why didn’t general manager Joe Schoen sign him to a contract? Wilson is a much better quarterback option than Daniel Jones is at the moment.
There may have been some locker room issues with him on the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos, but the Giants need to win games now. Not signing Russell Wilson and doubling down on Daniel Jones is going to get general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll fired after the 2024 season, if not earlier than that.
