New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence has become one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL over the past couple of seasons. Lawrence was a 2019 first-round pick from Clemson. He is the anchor to this defense.
Last season with the Giants, he recorded 53 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and two pass deflections. Quite often, Dexter Lawrence gets double-teamed by other offensive linemen. He is always a nightmare for opposing offenses to gameplan for because he is a force in the run game and also in the passing game.
This season, the New York Giants could be even better defensively because they added pieces to help out Lawrence. General manager Joe Schoen traded for outside linebacker Brian Burns from the Carolina Panthers. Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Lawrence will be the core of the Giants defense this season.
NFL Analyst Ranks New York Giants Defensive Tackle Dexter Lawrence In the Top 20 Entering the 2024 NFL Season
CBS Sports Pete Frisco came out with his Top 100 players list entering the 2024 NFL season. New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence is ranked 19th entering this upcoming season. Frisco said about Lawrence:
“He is a massive man in the middle of the New York defense who makes it tough to run inside. But he is also a power pass rusher inside who can really push the pocket, which makes him far more than just a one-dimensional run stuffer.”
A season ago, Lawrence was ranked 34th by CBS Sports. On this list of Top 100 NFL players on CBS Sports, he is the highest-ranked defensive tackle. Dexter Lawrence can very well now be the best defensive tackle in the NFL with Aaron Donald retiring this offseason and no longer playing for the Los Angeles Rams.
The other four defensive linemen who are ahead of Lawrence on this list are Chris Jones of the Kansas City Chiefs, Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers, Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders, and Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns. Garrett was ranked as the second-best player in the NFL entering the 2024 season right behind Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Some people have Jones as a defensive tackle, but Frisco has Chris Jones listed as a defensive end for Kansas City. It is not a surprise that Lawrence is listed in the Top 20, but it is a surprise he is ranked as the best defensive tackle in the NFL entering this season.
