The 2024 NFL season is going to be an interesting one to watch for the New York Giants with a lot riding on the line. Daniel Jones has one more chance to prove that he can be a long-term starting quarterback. If he’s unable to do so, it seems likely that the franchise would look to replace him next offseason.
One of the biggest speculations for next offseason has been that the Giants could look into the idea of pursuing Dak Prescott if the Dallas Cowboys move on from him. For the Cowboys, the 2024 season is also an important one. If they don’t make a playoff run, moving on from Prescott and head coach Mike McCarthy seems like a likely move that Jerry Jones would make.
Previously, it has been reported that the New York Giants could be one of the team’s with interest in pursuing Prescott next offseason is he becomes available.
New York Giants, Dak Prescott Pairing Makes Perfect Sense
While it’s simply speculation, a move between the Giants and Prescott would make perfect sense for both sides.
Starting with the Giants, they have to find a long-term franchise quarterback. Jones doesn’t appear to be that guy and if he doesn’t put up huge numbers in 2024 there is no question that New York will look to replace him. Very few quarterbacks will be available that could provide higher upside than Prescott.
On the other side of things, if Prescott does become available, he would likely be more than open to joining a team in the NFC East so that he could get revenge on how things ended in Dallas. What better way to do that than by signing with the New York Giants and taking them back to the playoffs?
During the 2023 NFL season with the Cowboys, Prescott put up big numbers. He completed 69.5 percent of his pass attempts for 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. In addition to his passing numbers, he racked up 242 yards and two more touchdowns on the ground.
That kind of production would take the New York Giants’ offense to the next level. They have solid weapons, especially with the selection of Malik Nabers in the 2024 NFL Draft. Prescott’s presence would immediately make them a contender in the NFC.
Assuming Jones does not prove himself to be a capable starting quarterback for the Giants this season, New York will likely be willing to open up the checkbook to fix their conundrum under center. Prescott would be a guy that could immediately turn things around and he would be a sure thing as opposed to drafting and hoping a young quarterback develops into a true franchise cornerstone.
It will be interesting to see how the 2024 NFL season unfolds for both the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys. Things could get very interesting if Jones doesn’t perform well and the Cowboys underperform.
