New Celtics ownership to replace "Lucky" mascot with androgynous dancing "Shamrock"

When you spend over $6 billion I suppose you want to add your own personal footprint to your acquisition, but the guess here is not all Boston Celtics fans will be thrilled to hear what the team's new owner's first major change is. In an attempt to be more inclusive to Celtics Nation Bill Chisholm today annonced that they will be retiring Lucky the Leprechaun at the end of the regular season and debuting their new mascot "Shamrock" in Game 1 of their first round playoff series.

After seeing the blowback that the Dallas Mavericks' new owners received after trading their 25 year old superstar Luka Doncic, Chisholm decided to hire a public relations consulting firm to first vet the five finalists for the team's new mascot and the dancing Shamrock proved to be the most popular. By choosing an androgynous mascot, the Celtics are following in the footsteps of the head of the aforementioned PR firm's alma mater the University of Delaware.

"YoUDee," a fighting blue hen is the school's mascot and was intentionally designed to be neither explicitly male nor female in an effort to promote inclusivity and challenge traditional gender roles. The Celtics new ownership group reportedly deemed Lucky the Leprechaun to be "problematic" in the modern world and Chisholm compared the dancing Shamrock change to when Robert Kraft changed the New England Patriots logo:

The Dancing Shamrock can be our Elvis! Our friends in Foxborough won six Super Bowls after they made the change. Maybe Shamrock can help Tatum and JB dance their way all the way up to Banner 24."
