Myles Garrett situation worsens in Cleveland after billionaire owner refuses meeting

Every athlete coming into the NFL wants to win. They have been winning all their way through peewee football, high school and college before entering the NFL. After all that, if they are part of a consistent losing culture, they would want to join a contender before they retire, just as Myles Garrett wants now.

Browns Owner Reportedly Refuses to Speak to Myles Garrett Amid Trade Drama

Myles Garrett might be a freak of nature who spends a lot of time and money looking after his body. But he is 29-years-old and understands that football life is short for a defensive end who takes on that much pounding every season.

When the Cleveland Browns brought in Deshaun Watson , Garrett felt their losing days were going to be over. But so far, that experiment has failed, and the team does not have a starting caliber QB for next season. The pass rusher does not want to continue in this situation and hence handed in a trade request.

But the Browns have not accepted his request and have made their stance clear, they are not accepting offers from teams. After they tried to hand him a contract extension, the six-time Pro Bowler tried to get a resolution.

Browns star Myles Garrett recently requested a meeting with owner Jimmy Haslam, who declined to speak amidst Garrett’s trade request, per sources.

The NFL Insider’s news means one, Garrett wanted to speak to the owner to convince him that he needs to move. The other side is that Jimmy Haslam not wanting to meet, means he wants his employee to do the job he is paid for.

Myles Garrett might sit out games if Browns do not honor trade request

Usually, such situations result in a stalemate. A disgruntled player often proceeds to miss games as a sign of protest against the team. That seems to be the method Myles Garrett is likely to employ after this latest development.

Both sides are dug in: Cleveland refuses to even discuss a trade, while Garrett is preparing to miss games if he’s not traded.

The superstar has been the model athlete so far. But now it seems he wants to look out for himself and that starts with moving to a team where he can at least try and win a Super Bowl before he retires. The problem he has is that he is on the hook for a considerable amount of money.

The Texas native still has $40 million on his contract. It does average to around $20 million over the next two seasons. Even then, it is still a prohibitive amount for a contender. In addition to that, the Cleveland Browns will demand a ransom. These conditions will make it even more difficult for him to find a partner.
