The Minnesota Vikings had no intention to trade wide receiver Justin Jefferson, but that didn't stop teams from trying. The New York Jets, Indianapolis Colts and the Vikings' week two opponent San Francisco 49ers all tried to acquire the superstar wide receiver, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
None of this comes with much surprise. Teams weren't sure what would happen with Jefferson, especially since his contract was taking longer than anticipated. The two sides nearly came to a deal before the start of the 2023 season but they couldn't get across the goal line.
The intriguing team here is the week two opponent of the Vikings in the 49ers. They dealt with their own wide receiver drama with Brandon Aiyuk, who was selected three picks after Jefferson and signed his own extension just a few weeks ago.
The other two teams in the New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts, who were looking for Jefferson for different reasons. The Jets are all-in for this season to maximize the Aaron Rodgers era while the Colts are trying to build around Anthony Richardson.
No matter why other teams wanted to acquire Jefferson, they had zero chance.
