The Seattle Seahawks could still be interested in making some free agency moves. According to Over the Cap, the team still has $33,596,105 in cap space, the seventh most in the league. General manager John Schneider might want to roll that over to next offseason, but we will see.
Seattle has been linked recently to cornerback Shaquill Griffin. Entertaining bringing back defensive end Jadeveon Clowney could also be an option. Neither would seemingly be overly expensive, but both would likely elevate Seattle's already good defense. Griffin or Clowney on one-year deals would make sense.
The Seahawks also would not need to make cap room to sign either. The team easily has enough money to sign its draft picks and fill out the practice squad. The veteran holdovers from last year would mostly appear to be safe. At least, there is no dire need to release any of them.
Recent article on Seahawks trading Noah Fant is misleading and false
This includes tight end Noah Fant. He is entering the final year of his contract and has a cap hit of $13.41 million. The team would save $8.9 million by moving on from him. Potentially, Seattle does this because they likely took Fant's replacement in the second round of the 2025 NFL draft in the person of Elijah Arroyo.
But why not keep Fant and Arroyo, as well as second-year pro AJ Barner, on the roster this coming season? New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak loves to use tight ends in his scheme, and Fant and Arroyo give him two excellent options as receivers.
This is where the issue of a recent article by Last Word on Sports' Anthony Palacios comes in. This kind of "reporting" makes fans lose faith in the real reporting and rumors they read about the Seahawks. Even the article's lead is ridiculous: "Breaking: Former Broncos First Round Pick On Trade Block."
There is no breaking news here. No reputable source has confirmed that Seattle is shopping Fant. This is simple speculation.
Plus, the basis for Pacacios' article comes from him misinterpreting an article by Pro Football Network about potential trade or cut candidates for every NFL team after the NFL draft. The PFN article says the Seahawks possibly could be interested in trading Fant if the team likes what it sees from the Arroyo and Barner combination in minicamp and training camp.
If John Schneider were going to trade Fant, he likely would have already tried to do it to get more selections in the 2025 draft. Moving Fant now does little good. The return for the tight end is unlikely to be worth a move anyway. Not at this point.
Palacios writes that a "source" (Palacios's way of letting us know that the PFN article is the "source" is by linking to it) "believes the veteran may be in a uniform as he’s entering the last year of his contract."
Well, yeah. Fant will be in "a" uniform somewhere. The reality of the situation is that Noah Fant is probably going to be a Seahawk in 2025. Any "reporting" that Fant is about to be traded is false, but one could speculate that he could be. Klint Kubiak likely would rather keep Fant around, though.
