Mike Vrabel shouldn't have to worry about the quarterback position as long as he's the head coach of the New England Patriots. After all, they have a promising gunslinger in Drake Maye.
Maye, who appeared in the Pro Bowl this year, completed 66.6 percent of his passes for 2,276 yards with 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He didn't suit up for the regular-season finale though, which opened the door for Joe Milton to start.
Milton, a sixth-round pick from the 2024 NFL Draft, completed 22-of-29 pass attempts for 241 yards and a touchdown in an upset win over the Buffalo Bills . He also had a rushing touchdown on 10 carries. Apparently, that performance impressed a few teams around the league.
Even though Milton has just one start under his belt, there's chatter about him being a popular trade candidate this offseason. Would the Patriots be willing to pull the trigger though?
Judging by the latest report, Vrabel and the Patriots would entertain a trade.
During a radio show interview this Tuesday, Greg Bedard of the Boston Sports Journal said the Patriots are "toying" with the idea of trading Milton.
This is the second time this offseason that Bedard has mentioned a move involving the Tennessee product. Just a month ago, he talked about the Patriots entertaining a trade centered around Milton.
"I thought the Patriots would hold off on entertaining a trade of Joe Milton, who was drafted in the sixth round (193rd overall) last year, for at least another season, but there’s increasing belief around the NFL that the Patriots are at least contemplating a trade of Milton this offseason," Bedard wrote. "Again, I’m not saying he’s on the block right now, but the Patriots will likely consider it when everything settles with the front office and coaching staff."
Milton would give the Patriots a nice insurance policy if Maye gets hurt, but the front office might want more ammo for this year's draft.
