Michael Jordan, Mike Tyson, And Bernard King Were Born In Same Brooklyn Hospital

Michael Jordan, the North Carolina legend who grew up in Wilmington, attended Emsley A. Laney High School, but he was born in Brooklyn, New York, coincidentally in the same hospital as the boxing legend Mike Tyson and the Knicks' former All-Star Bernard King, along with his brother Albert King, who also played in the NBA for nine years.

Michael Jordan, Mike Tyson, And Bernard King Were Born In Same Brooklyn Hospital - Fadeaway World

Spike Lee shares details that probably no one knew before on Carmelo Anthony's podcast.

“Did you know that Cumberland Hospital? You know who was born there? Bernard [King], Albert [King], Mike Tyson, and Michael Jordan. Absolutely, all born in Fort Green Hospital. Damn that's spelled D-A-Y-U-M."

Then Spike Lee hinted that Michael Jordan doesn't like to listen to anyone talk about Brooklyn, especially him. Spike recalled the time he triggered MJ with his conversations about Brooklyn.

"Spike, stop talking that goddamn mother****in Brooklyn sh*t…Spike, stop talking about goddamn Brooklyn”, said Lee.

Jordan, the 62-year-old NBA legend, was born in Cumberland Hospital in Brooklyn in 1963. Three years later, in 1966, Mike Tyson was born in the same hospital. Yet if you ask Jordan, he would likely be more proud of his North Carolina upbringing than his Brooklyn roots. But seven years before Jordan, in 1956, NBA brothers Bernard and Albert King were born in Cumberland as well. So the hospital has witnessed several legendary births.

What Mike Tyson Feels About Michael Jordan

Jordan and Tyson reportedly once nearly fought in a bar. Despite that history with Jordan, when Shannon Sharpe asked Tyson about his favorite basketball player, he still said Michael Jordan.

Mike Tyson appeared on Shannon Sharpe's Club Shay Shay podcast and revealed his admiration for Michael Jordan. “I think you like Jordan because his name Mike and your name Mike,” joked Shay. Mike nodded his head in disagreement and revealed, “We were born in the same hospital.”

Michael Jordan's Record Against Bernard And Albert King

Michael Jordan was 16-7 for his career against a team with Bernard King on it. Either it was the Knicks or the Bullets (who are now the Wizards). In those 25 games, Jordan averaged 29.0 points, 6.4 assists, and 6.3 rebounds per game. Only one season on the Knicks and the rest of the games on the Bullets. King then retired from the NBA in 1993 after struggling with multiple injuries in 2 years.

Against Albert, Michael Jordan played 14 games and had an 8-6 record while averaging 33.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 6.0 assists.

When Michael Jordan And Mike Tyson Nearly Fought In A Bar

Both Tyson and Jordan dated the same woman. Not at the same time, but one after another. Robin Givens, a young 22-year-old actress at the time, first dated Jordan and then married Tyson a few years later after ending things with Jordan. Tyson once ran into Jordan at a bar and nearly had a confrontation. According to Mike Tyson's former manager, Jordan reacted like he'd seen a ghost.

“Jordan looks like he just seen a ghost. ‘I know you messed with her,’ Mike says, ‘You can tell me’. Jordan, it’s obvious he just wants to get up and run. He wants no part of this. And that’s what he did, he got out of there quickly,” said Rory.

It seems like pure coincidence that all these 4 sports stars were born in the same hospital. But if you think about it, it seems like a very intriguing story Jordan would want to talk about. Yet, Jordan seems to hate talking about Brooklyn.
