It is NFL schedule release week, which means you can expect the Dallas Cowboys to be peppered with primetime matchups. Even when Dallas isn't expected to be "contenders" they are always given some of the most primetime slates of any team.
With that said, it still came as a shock when it was revealed the Cowboys will open the 2025 regular season on the road against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. The game is scheduled for Thursday, Sept 4. at 8:20 pm ET and will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock.

It marks just the second time in the storied rivalry (133 games) that Philly and Dallas will open the regular season against each other.
Playing the defending champs, who will hang their Super Bowl banner pregame, obviously is not an ideal way to usher in the Brian Schottenheimer era, but Micah Parsons loves every second of it.
Parsons quickly took to Instagram to react to the big news (h/t to Brandon Loree of Blogging The Boys for finding Parsons' reaction).
Cowboys' Micah Parsons is ready to hand the Eagles a primetime loss in Week 1
Cowboys fans should embrace Parsons' mentality. If Dallas wants to be the champs, they have to beat the champs.
The Eagles will definitely have a ton of motivation for the game. They always get up for Cowboys showdowns and again, they will hang their Super Bowl banner before kickoff. Lincoln Financial Field will be absolutely rocking, but it's nothing Dallas hasn't faced before.
If there was ever a time to play the Eagles, it's probably Week 1.
Early-season division games don't really carry much juice. Teams are usually still finding their footing early in the season being that starters don't play many (if any) snaps in the preseason. This matchup loses a little bit of luster in that regard, but it has the potential to be a ratings monster.
While a terrifying matchup on paper for Dallas, Dak Prescott is 9-4 record versus the Eagles as a starting quarterback, including 3-3 at Lincoln Financial Field.
Parsons, meanwhile, has opened as the favorite over Myles Garrett to win Defensive Player of the Year. The NFL could not have scripted a better matchup for The Lion to start that campaign off with a bang.
