The Miami Heat's front office will likely aim to make an aggressive push to land a superstar via trade in the coming months.
The Heat's pairing of first-time All-Star guard Tyler Herro and 5-time All-Defensive Team selection Bam Adebayo led the franchise to only 37 regular-season wins in 2024-25, but their luck can change in the immediate future.
After an uneventful campaign, the organization's team president Pat Riley might engage in seismic trade discussions with various teams across the league, a list which may include the Dallas Mavericks.
According to recent reports from FanSided's Michael Saenz, the Heat could become a surprising candidate to acquire one of the Mavericks' superstar talents Kyrie Irving or Anthony Davis via trade.
"Known to feast on disgruntled stars, the Heat could enter the fray as a potential landing spot for Kyrie or AD," Saenz wrote Friday.
With the trade market looking to include some massive names, Saenz touched on the improved chances of the Heat landing either Irving or Davis compared to other superstar talents.
"In an economy where there could be even bigger names on the trade block, perhaps players like Kyrie and AD could be considered much more realistic targets for the Heat, especially compared to (the Milwaukee Bucks') Giannis Antetokounmpo."
"Kyrie could be the offensive-minded superstar guard they might be missing, and AD could be considered the perfect two-way fit next to Bam Adebayo."
In this case, it's plausible that the Heat may elect to pursue Davis before Irving due to the incredible defensive potential of a Davis-Adebayo frontcourt duo.
For a deal of this nature to take place, the salaries of Andrew Wiggins and Duncan Robinson, along with draft capital, could be combined in a package to receive the legendary big man.
If the 10-time All-Star and 2020 NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers were to join Adebayo, the Heat would instantly possess one of the greatest defensive frontcourt pairings in the history of the NBA.
Adding Herro's ever-expanding offensive skillset into the mix to combine with Davis' own scoring ability and Adebayo's excellent defensive versatility, the Heat could hypothetically become a problem in the Eastern Conference in 2025-26.
In just 51 appearances in 2024-25 while splitting his time between the Lakers and Mavericks, Davis contributed 24.7 points, 11.6 rebounds and 2.2 blocks while sporting a 58.8% true shooting percentage.
