The former Park Crossing High School and Miles College wide receiver returned to Miami on Wednesday and visited his teammates in the locker room on Thursday. On Friday, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel provided an update on DuBose without providing specifics about his injury.

“My update is that I’ve talked to him in person, and he’s in good spirits,” McDaniel said. “Beyond that, I’m just totally focused on him being able to attack the day-to-day process and be healthy for himself and his family and everybody involved. I think really that’s where it stands. I don’t foresee seeing him playing football this season, but I see him as part of the program, so I’m just invested in him on the daily.”

Miami placed DuBose on injured reserve on Tuesday.

DuBose left the field on a stretcher during the third quarter of Sunday’s game and was taken to Hermann Memorial-Texas Medical Center with a head injury.

On Monday, the Dolphins announced DuBose “has movement in all extremities and initial tests have revealed positive results. He remains under the care of doctors for continued observation.”

DuBose played in three games in 2024 after joining Miami as a waiver claim between the end of the preseason and the beginning of the regular season.

DuBose was awarded to the Dolphins after being waived by the Green Bay Packers, who chose DuBose in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft and kept him on their practice squad for the entire 2023 season.

DuBose sustained a shoulder injury in the second game of the 2024 season and spent the next 11 games on injured reserve. Sunday’s game was his first since Sept. 12.

DuBose was trying to catch a pass across the middle when he was hit by Texans safety Caden Bullock, who was penalized for unnecessary roughness on the play. DuBose lay motionless on the turf at NRG Stadium in Houston as medical personnel worked on him for more than 10 minutes after he went down.

DuBose finally was slipped onto a backboard and wheeled off the field.

DuBose played 50 offensive snaps for Miami in 2024, when he had two receptions for 11 yards.

After playing high school football in Montgomery, DuBose played for Miles’ SIAC championship and NCAA Division II playoff team in 2019. But when the Golden Bears canceled their 2020 schedule because of the coronavirus pandemic, DuBose was left bagging groceries, delivering food orders and working at Walmart and Hyundai Glovis.

When DuBose returned to college football with Charlotte, he caught 126 passes for 1,684 yards and 15 touchdowns in two seasons with the 49ers.
