Mia Thornton and her estranged husband, Gordon, might be heading for divorce, but they haven’t severed all ties yet. The two live in the same building, co-parent their two children, communicate frequently, and even share money.
Mia shared more on her complicated situation with her friend Jacqueline Blake while vacationing in Lake Norman during Episode 5 of Season 9’s The Real Housewives of Potomac.
“There’s three issues. He’s not over you, very clearly. He’s having a hard time. He’s feeling like you’re using him,” Jacqueline said as Mia read a series of text messages she received from Gordon.
“But I don’t get that part. Because he has even said, I have messages where he’s like, ‘Thank you so much for being there for me. Thank you so much for taking care of me,’” Mia replied. “How am I using him when I’m helping him?”
Gordon revealed during Part 3 of the Season 8 reunion that he was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 disorder. Read on to see how Mia explained all the ways she’s still helping him even during their separation.
Mia Thornton shares she's helping her estranged husband "financially"
Mia cleared the air on if she’s “using” Gordon by revealing that she’s actually “financially taking care of him.”
“So, he should be watching the kids when you need him. Because technically he is the nanny at this point,” Jacqueline said. “He’s on the payroll. He’s the daddy and the nanny. You’re on the payroll! Let’s get it straight.”
Their conversation by the pool started off when Mia shared that Gordon was texting her about an Instagram post she’d made months ago about her current boyfriend, Incognito, known as Inc.
“I woke up this morning and Gordon is like firing off all these text messages. It’s always when I leave and go somewhere,” Mia claimed. “He doesn’t want me to have a good time.”
Earlier this season, Gordon expressed his anger that Mia was moving on with her high school sweetheart — anger that continued in Lake Norman.
“He goes, ‘I can’t remember a time when I felt so hurt and felt so used in my life,’” Mia told Jacqueline. “I go, ‘Oh, Gordon, you know I have not used you. I love you. Things just became too challenging, and you know all the reasons why. But I have not left your side.’ I really have not.”
“You still haven’t left his side,” Jacqueline responded. “You guys literally live in the same building."
