Mavericks Get Big News After Loss to Lakers

Despite losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in Luka Doncic's first game back in the city since being traded, the Dallas Mavericks still got some good news on Wednesday night.

The NBA announced that the Mavs have officially secured a spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament following the Phoenix Suns' loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

As a result of Phoenix's defeat, the Mavericks maintained a three-game lead over the Suns, ensuring they will not drop below the 10th seed in the Western Conference.

Now, the Mavericks are set face the Sacramento Kings in the first round of the Play-In Tournament. The only thing that has yet to be decided is who will have homecourt advantage, since Dallas is just one game behind Sacramento and can still move up to the ninth seed with two games remaining in the regular season.

In the NBA Play-In Tournament, the No. 7 seed hosts the No. 8 seed, while the No. 9 seed hosts the No. 10 seed in the first round. The winner of the battle between the seventh and eighth seeds moves on to the playoffs, while the loser hosts the winner of the No. 9 vs. No. 10 clash for the final postseason spot.

The play-in is scheduled from April 15 to April 18, just a couple of days after the conclusion of the regular season on April 13. It precedes the start of the playoffs on April 19.

It remains to be seen what the Mavericks' final position will be and whether they can make it to the playoffs. For now, though, Dallas fans can only wait and hope for the best.
