Tom Brady was officially approved as a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders by the NFL on Tuesday, with the league owners voting in his favor during a fall league meeting in Atlanta.
And Brady could serve in another capacity for the Raiders, according to owner Mark Davis.
Davis told NFL.com reporter Judy Battista that although Brady can’t play quarterback for the Raiders, he can help the organization select a quarterback in the future via the NFL Draft. And having Brady’s immense knowledge of the position can only help.
Tom Brady, of course, was one of the most prolific quarterbacks in NFL history.
The 23-year NFL veteran was a seven-time Super Bowl champion, five-time Super Bowl MVP, three-time league MVP, two-time NFL offensive player of the year and a 15-time Pro Bowler.
Five times he finished as the NFL passing touchdowns leader and four times he finished as the NFL passing yardage leader.
Naturally, as he transitions into his new role as a minority owner, Tom Brady will take some time to get settled. But the Raiders have a wealth of knowledge they can now tap into.
Why Tom Brady wanted to be a Raiders minority owner
Brady broke down why becoming a minority owner with the Raiders was such a big deal for him.
“When I look at a lot of the people that have impacted the NFL over a long period of time in the most positive way, (former Raiders owner and GM) Al Davis is one of them,” Brady said. “And he’s not with us anymore but I’ve heard incredible stories. And then the opportunity came about to become a minority owner in the Raiders, it was a dream come true for me. I’ll be playing a very passive role. This is something that I’m interested in doing for the rest of my life. This is not something that I’m into it for a year or two years.”
Brady will be an owner and NFL analyst at the same time. In 2022, the seven-time Super Bowl champion quarterback agreed to a 10-year, $375 million contract to join Fox as an analyst once his playing career came to an end. Brady retired in 2023 but began his broadcasting career at Fox this season.
