Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic was the biggest winner from the franchise’s record sale because the new ownership group headed by Mark Walter is known for sparing no expense. They bought the team at a record valuation of $10 billion. Walter and his group own the Dodgers and Chelsea FC. They have spent massive amounts on those teams to win. The group won’t stop with the Lakers. The Buss family did not have those deep pockets, but that is no longer a problem.
The Lakers will still be limited by the second tax apron on what they can spend on their roster, but the on-court talent is not the only way to improve the franchise. The Dodgers went out and got the best general manager in baseball to oversee their franchise when Walter bought the team. LA will have state-of-the-art facilities, staff, and leadership under this new group.
Walter will pay for the roster too. Luka won’t have to worry about taking a discount. This new ownership will have zero issues giving him a max contract and spending to put talent around him. Doncic went through an ownership change in Dallas that ultimately saw him traded, but that won’t happen this time around.
Luka Doncic is the biggest winner of the Lakers sale
Doncic is unquestionably the face of the Lakers after the stunning midseason trade. He is one of the five best players in the world and an unstoppable offensive engine. Walter is not letting that type of talent out the door. His track record with the Dodgers has him acquiring and keeping the best players in the game. Luka will be paid handsomely, and there will be no hesitancy to find him a co-star.
Walter will try to amass the best front office, coaching staff, and support team for the Lakers. He will try to gain every advantage possible. The Lakers are already the biggest brand in the NBA. Now, they will have the pockets to be the best in every aspect.
Luka Doncic hit a home run with the ownership move. The Buss family always took care of star players, but they couldn’t afford what Walter and his group can and will make happen. There will be no questions about making a cost-cutting move or trying to avoid paying the tax. Walter won’t care. He wants to win and will do whatever in his power to make that happen.
Luka Doncic is already holding up his end of the bargain for the Los Angeles Lakers. He has improved his conditioning and is gearing up to push the franchise on a deep playoff run in 2026. Doncic led the Mavs to the NBA Finals and defeated the Thunder in the playoffs last year. Don't count the Lakers out if number 77 is healthy.
The new ownership group will only help. Luka should be ecstatic. He now plays for the biggest franchise in the league and has a group ready to build an annual contender around him. Things couldn’t be better.
