As the Los Angeles Rams conduct minicamp in Maui, head coach Sean McVay offered an update on one of the team’s key offseason priorities: extending Pro Bowl running back Kyren Williams.
Williams, entering the final year of his rookie contract, is not holding out or making demands. But negotiations are ongoing, and both sides appear to be inching toward a resolution.

“There’s been a lot of back and forth. There’s been some good proposals on both sides,” McVay told reporters. “We are getting closer to hopefully finding a conclusion to this.”
Though McVay said the situation is “really the same” as his last media update, he emphasized that “behind the scenes, there’s been really good dialogue” between Williams’ camp, led by agent Drew Rosenhaus, and the organization. “Kyren’s done everything in his power to show up, be that pro, that leader — everything we’ve asked.”
Williams is due $5.35 million this season thanks to the NFL’s proven performance escalator, a significant jump from his $985,000 salary in 2024. The 23-year-old is coming off a breakout campaign with 1,299 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns.
Based on Spotrac’s calculated market value, Kyren Williams could command a contract in the range of three years, $31 million, with an average annual salary of $10.36 million. That figure would place him among the NFL’s better-compensated running backs — a reflection of his breakout 2024 season and expanding role in the Rams’ offense. Whether the Rams meet that valuation remains to be seen, but it sets a clear benchmark for ongoing negotiations.
The Rams added rookie Jarquez Hunter in the draft, and second-year back Blake Corum remains in the mix, but Williams has embraced a leadership role.
General manager Les Snead noted the team has ample time to get a deal done and reiterated mutual interest.
“Kyren’s a great human. We all want this to work out. If it doesn’t happen this year, it doesn’t mean he’s not a part of the Rams next year.”
For now, the Rams will take things “a day at a time and a conversation at a time,” as McVay put it — but momentum is clearly building.
