Ramsey could potentially return to the Los Angeles Rams, who are in need of an upgrade at the cornerback position.

Ramsey, a perennial Pro Bowl-caliber cornerback, could be on the move for the third time in his career. Throughout his tenures with previous teams, Ramsey’s high-level play has consistently resulted in those teams receiving valuable compensation in trade deals.

This offseason, the Miami Dolphins are reportedly open to trading Ramsey. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Ramsey and the Dolphins will “mutually explore trade options.”

Given Ramsey’s age (30) and his performance in the 2024 season, teams interested in acquiring him would likely need to offer a mid-round draft pick. In 2024, Ramsey recorded 11 pass breakups and two interceptions, while allowing an 83.2 passer rating in coverage.

Spotrac’s Michael Ginnitti notes the financial aspects of a potential trade, stating that the acquiring team would take on a $21.1 million contract for the upcoming year, with a more flexible structure in the subsequent three years. “The acquiring team would essentially be taking on a 1-year, $21.1M contract, with the remaining three years [set up] as a pay-as-you-go structure,” Ginnitti wrote.

With these factors in mind, several teams could be potential landing spots for Ramsey. Here’s a look at one trade scenario via Moe Moton of Bleacher Report

Los Angeles Rams, Jalen Ramsey Trade Idea

  • Los Angeles Rams Get: CB Jalen Ramsey
  • Miami Dolphins Get: 2025 3rd-round pick (No. 101 overall)

Last year, the Rams brought back Darious Williams, who previously played alongside Ramsey from 2019 to 2022. However, Williams had a less effective 2024 season, recording seven pass breakups and one interception while allowing a 101.7 passer rating.

The Rams also signed Ahkello Witherspoon, who is viewed more as a rotational depth player than a consistent starter. Witherspoon will turn 30 and has only played a full season once in his eight-year career due to injuries. A young player like Cobie Durant could greatly benefit from having Ramsey as a teammate and mentor.

The Rams could create additional cap space through cuts or restructures to facilitate this move.

In 2024, Los Angeles’ defense showed improvement as the season progressed, particularly in the defensive front. However, the unit still ranked 20th in passing yards allowed and allowed the seventh-most passing touchdowns.

With Matthew Stafford locked into a new contract, the Rams’ Super Bowl window remains open. Acquiring Ramsey could help the team make another strong push for a championship.
