Lions Urged to Pursue Former Dolphins Edge Rusher

We are just over a week away from the NFL Draft and the Detroit Lions' biggest need remains the same as it was at the start of free agency.

The team still hasn't addressed their need to add a better option as their second starting edge rusher.

The free agent options are mostly gone at this point, but there are still some viable players they could pursue.

That includes on veteran edge who has spent the last five seasons with the Miami Dolphins.

In an article identifying one player each NFL team should still sign this offseason, Pro Football and Sports Network's Mark Stolte named former Dolphins edge Emmanuel Ogbah as the player the Lions should be pursuing.

Ogbah is one of the best fits still out there on the free agent market for the Lions.

While Marcus Davenport is a major wild card because of his injury history, Ogbah has been  consistent contributor throughout his career. He has had at least five sacks in six of his nine NFL seasons.

That includes a 2024 season where he contributed six sacks for the Dolphins and added 33 total pressures.

He was also strong against the run this past season. According to Pro Football Focus, Ogbah finished 28th among edge rushers with 26 stops.

He also shouldn't be all that expensive after he cost the Dolphins just $3.25 million in 2024.

Adding him would give the Lions a stable second option on the edge that they could rely on until they have a more long-term option ready to take over that spot.

He was one of the options I liked when I wrote about the Lions needing a "bridge" edge and he remains somebody the Lions should be looking at as a late addition to their roster.
