Lions send unmistakable message to these 2 players with NFL Draft choices

Now that the excitement and elation of the draft is gone, we get to turn our attention to a much more awkward part of the NFL offseason: speculating about who's getting replaced.

Lions send unmistakable message to these 2 players with NFL Draft choices

In a dream world, the Lions just landed four or five eventual starters from this weekend. And while that'd be an all-time great class for Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell, that also means that right now, there are four or five starters on the roster that the Lions probably aren't all that attached to. It's all just a business, etc. From the look of this year's draft class, a not-insignificant portion of those guys, right now, are on the line. But who exactly? What a great and topical question!

These three Lions players are on high alert after 2025 NFL Draft

1. WR Tim Patrick

Partick's probably getting a raw deal here, but that's the NFL. After missing two consecutive seasons with injuries, Patrick's numbers in 2024 – 33 catches, 394 yards, 11.9 Y/R – weren't particularly close to the pre-injury numbers he was putting up with the Broncos from 2020-2022. Being another year cleared from those injuries should help him regain some of that form, but third round wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa sure seems like a guy who could eventually steal snaps away from Patrick. (And with the Lions using a Top 100 pick on him, it sorta seems like they expect him to.) That's life as a 32-year old wide receiver on a one-year deal.

2. G Graham Glasgow

It's kinda wild to write about Glasgow's job security, but you didn't come to a Lions blog to have an existential crisis about the passage of time, so let's just get on with it. Glasgow had a tough season last year: he ranked as Pro Football Focus' 55th-best guard, and allowed the most sacks and QB hits of his career. Dan Campbell's kinda hinted at moving him back to right guard this offseason, but given how Christian Mahogany looked at the end of last season (which, admittedly, is a small sample size) and the team's decision to use a second round pick on Geogia guard Tate Ratledge, you can't help but wonder who will eventually be the odd man out. The way his contract is set up makes it easy for the Lions to move on after this season, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
