Lions Make Jared Goff Announcement at Training Camp

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is back, and the Lions are making it clear that he’s officially in the Motor City and ready to lead this team to what will hopefully be an historic season for all the right reasons.

Lions Make Jared Goff Announcement at Training Camp

The Detroit Lions quarterback reported to camp this week, when the veteran were scheduled to return. It’s no surprise that as soon as Goff was back in action, the Lions’ social media accounts used the opportunity to give him a shout out and announce that he’s back.

“So back,” the franchise simply posted on Instagram on Monday, July 20, along with a photo of Goff practicing and a gallery of other players at camp. The Lions shared the same photo and gallery on X, this time with a few more words, stating, “We are so back.”

“So pumped for this season,” one commenter stated on social media. “Why is it taking so long?” Another stated, “No glove Jamo might be the move.”

Jared Goff Will Hopefully Bounce Back

Heading into the new season, Eric Woodyard of ESPN notes in a July 22 feature to keep an eye on Goff. He has a few lingering questions about the signal-caller.

“Despite an MVP-caliber 2024 season in which he finished fifth in voting, the question in Detroit remains whether Goff can help get the Lions over the hump,” he states in the piece. “With everything set last year — his future, his money, and team in place — the veteran quarterback took heavy criticism for the Lions’ early playoff exit in which he threw three interceptions and a lost fumble in the NFC divisional round loss to Washington. It will be interesting to see how he bounces back.”

He also has some questions about star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson, stating, “Now, the Pro Bowl edge rusher is fully cleared to return and says he’s ‘back to being myself again,’ but it’ll be interesting to see if he can continue that elite production.”

Other Quarterbacks on the Lions’ Roster

One of Goff’s backup quarterbacks is Hendon Hooker, and he just got some props from head coach Dan Campbell. As training camp started, Campbell sent a message to Hooker and said that the Lions have encouraged him to step up and get better before the season kicks off.

“Hooker knows the deal, man. You’re out here to compete,” he said in a press conference. “We gave him some things to do while he was home, talking about working on a little bit of the urgency, the footwork. Certainly continue training.”

He added, “It’s only one day. I liked what I saw out there yesterday. There was an urgency. I thought his footwork was on, I thought he was spitting the plays out. There again, it’s day one. He knows what it is. It’s time for him to take the next step, so it’s his move. I think he’s wired right. It means something to him, and here we go. It’s open camp.”

It will be exciting to see Hooker’s growth this season and to see if Goff can finally get this team through the playoffs.
