Lions Get Good News Amid String of Coaching Departures

This week has been a whirlwind for the Detroit Lions' coaching staff.

Lions Get Good News Amid String of Coaching Departures

They lost both their offensive and defensive coordinators to head coaching jobs with other organizations within a few days of being eliminated from the playoffs.

They also lost defensive line coach Terrell Williams as he headed to the New England Patriots to become their defensive coordinator.

Fortunately, they wasted no time finding their replacement for Williams as they hired former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers just a day after Williams left the team.

Now it looks like they've scored another big win in their efforts to solidify the coaching staff.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Lions are promoting offensive line coach Hank Fraley to run game coordinator/offensive line coach.

The move should keep Fraley with the Lions amid concerns he could leave to become an offensive coordinator elsewhere.

Fraley had done a second interview with the Seattle Seahawks earlier in the week.

There was also the looming idea that he could follow Ben Johnson to Chicago.

Holding on to Fraley is huge for the Lions as the offensive line has arguably been the organization's strongest unit over the past couple of seasons.

The group features a pair of All-Pros and allowed an average of just 32 sacks per season over the last two years. They've also helped the Lions establish the dominant run game that has been a cornerstone of their offense.

After the season ended, the stars of the Lions O-Line made it clear they had no intention of letting Fraley leave.

Center Frank Ragnow said (via the Lions' team website) "You refuse to let Hank leave. I haven’t played in this league without Hank and I don’t plan on doing it. I’ll sabotage him, I’ll leak stories, whatever it takes."

Left tackle Penei Sewell kept his thoughts on the situation simple, saying,"He's not going anywhere."

Now the Lions know they'll have some continuity on their coaching staff for the 2025 season and it comes from one of the most successful parts of their team.
