The Detroit Lions are not far away from a Super Bowl. During the 2024 regular season, they compiled a 15-2 record and were the best team in the NFL overall.
When the playoffs came, however, the Lions ended up getting eliminated by the Washington Commanders in the divisional round. That loss made it clear that they have more work to do.
Detroit has a few areas it could look to improve. One of those areas comes at the linebacker position.
With NFL free agency set to get underway this week, the Lions are being linked to a very intriguing linebacker option.
There are quite a few talented linebackers who will hit the market. One of them is San Francisco 49ers star Dre Greenlaw.
Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports has named Detroit as one of the best fits for Greenlaw this offseason.
Greenlaw suffered a freak injury during the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs a couple years ago. As he was running onto the field for a defensive possession, he tore his Achilles.
Due to that injury and recovering from him, he was only able to play in two games during the 2024 season. His numbers during the 2023 season show what kind of player he is capable of being.
In 15 games during that campaign, Greenlaw racked up 120 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and four defended passes. He's a tackling machine who can make plays all across the field.
If the Lions are looking to add speed and athleticism to their linebacker group, Greenlaw could be the perfect target.
