The Detroit Lions' 2025 NFL Playoffs loss to the Washington Commanders came after cornerback Amik Robertson suffered a broken arm early in the first quarter.
Robertson's injury was the lowest of lows after the highest of highs one week previous as he played incredible defense on Minnesota Vikings superstar Justin Jefferson in an NFC North Division clinching victory.
Robertson is expected back for next season this fall after a strong 2024 campaign with former defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn's unit.
Robertson sent a message earlier this week indicating the Lions' attitude as they prepare to get more offseason work in together as a team.
"No excuses...we wan all smoke," Robertson said. "I luv this (expletive)."
The Lions struggled with defensive depth last season, especially at the cornerback position. Robertson's injury significantly hampered the Lions against Jayden Daniels, Terry McLaurin and the Commanders' passing attack, highlighting the need for improved health and depth this offseason.
The Lions added cornerback DJ Reed from the New York Jets in free agency but lost Carlton Davis III to the New England Patriots.
Safety Dan Jackson was taken by the Lions in the seventh round, adding additional depth to a secondary that has become one of the focal points of the Lions' defense when healthy.
Fans reacted with shouts of 'One Pride' and Honolulu blue colored heart emojis as they offered words of support for Robertson, widely considered to be one of the toughest players on the Lions' roster.
"Lions play better as an underdog," one fan said. "Let the world talk their trash."
