Las Vegas Raiders Rookie Ashton Jeanty Gets Insane Hate From Seattle Seahawks

On Thursday August 7, 2025, during a preseason matchup between the Las Vegas Raiders and Seattle Seahawks, the ‘Hawks official X account made a spicy post about running backs Ashton Jeanty and George Holani.

Raiders Rookie Ashton Jeanty Gets Insane Hate From Seahawks

“Some people are saying @GeorgeHolani is the best RB out of Boise State,” the post read.

George Holani is a backup running back for the Seahawks, while Jeanty, who put up one of the best seasons by a running back in college football history in 2024, is expected to start for Las Vegas.

You have to applaud the Seahawks for sticking by and hyping up their guy, but did they have to pit old teammates against each other and tear down Jeanty in the process?

Holani and Jeanty Had Very Different Nights

It was a rough game for Ashton Jeanty, and by contrast, a very good one for George Holani.

Jeanty rushed only three times for a total of -1 yards, prompting a lot of social media discourse about whether Jeanty could be effective against NFL defenses.

Holani, on the other hand, was the best rusher on the field Thursday night. He had 7 carries for 61 yards and a Seahawks touchdown, leading to a viral moment with Seahawks and Raiders legend and new photographer Marshawn Lynch.

Still, Holani is a third string running back on the Seahawks depth chart and Jeanty’s former backup while Jeanty is the favorite to win offensive rookie of the year.

In his first year in the NFL last season, Holani had only 3 carries for 10 yards. He’s battling to even be on the roster. It’s kind of unfair to him that the Seahawks are comparing him to Jeanty.

Pete Carroll also admitted that the Raiders offensive playcalling was intentionally very bland so they could keep their playbook under wraps. Judging Jeanty off of one very brief performance would be crazy.

Everyone should just root for Jeanty and Holani to both be successful, like when they combined for over 1900 yards as Boise Broncos teammates in both 2022 and 2023. Not every group of players needs to be compared.

Geno Smith Also Dealt With Hate

Jeanty wasn’t the only Raider to receive a viral hate comment during the Seahawks game.

One Seattle fan near the Raiders tunnel made a sign calling new Raiders quarterback Geno Smith a “bust” and comparing him to infamous former Raiders QB Jamarcus Russell.

A Seahawks fan brought a sign to today’s preseason game ROASTING former QB Geno Smith.

“Bigger bust — Geno or JaMarcus Russell”

There's no place for this in sports…🤦‍♂️ pic.twitter.com/Pm61Sh0qgN

Which again, is crazy considering Seattle is Smith’s former team and he led them to a winning record every season he played for them, and the playoffs in 2022.

Smith responded to the hater by flipping the double bird towards the section of the crowd he was standing in, and his superstar teammate Maxx Crosby followed suit in a show of solidarity with his quarterback.

It’s unclear what got into Seattle fans and social media interns last night, but they were in the mood to talk some major smack. They should be careful targeting Raider Nation.

What did you think of the hate that Jeanty and Smith faced last night, Raiders fans? Will they silence all the haters on the field in 2025?
