The Las Vegas Raiders don’t seem satisfied with the position groups in their secondary, as they have been active in recent days trying to get more talent in the building.
Just recently on Wednesday June 11, the Raiders signed former Cincinnati Bengals star linebacker Germaine Pratt.
But even still, they aren’t done trying to sign top talent in the secondary. On Wednesday June 11, the same day that Pratt agreed to a deal with Las Vegas, ESPN football insider Jeremy Fowler reported that free agent cornerback Shaquill Griffin was visiting with the Raiders.
Free agent cornerback Shaquill Griffin is visiting the #Raiders, per source. Former Pro Bowler also visited Seattle earlier in offseason.
Those talks seem to be going into some depth. Today, on Thursday July 12, 2025, NFL insider Josina Anderson reported that Griffin’s visit continued into July 12, with Griffin’s flight on July 11 apparently having been delayed.
I was told this morning that free agent CB Shaquill Griffin’s visit with the #Raiders was carrying over into “today.” A league source said his “flight was delayed” yesterday.
Staying the extra day allows Griffin two full days at mandatory minicamp, around the team, and around Pete Carroll’s new regime for the coaching staff to convince him to sign with the Silver and Black.
Griffin Played With Carroll Before
Shaquill Griffin was drafted in the third round of the NFL draft, 96th overall, by the Seattle Seahawks back in 2017 out of the University of Central Florida.
His senior season in 2016, he was valuable for the Knights in every aspect. He racked up 49 total tackles, four interceptions including a pick-six, 15 passes defensed and one fumble recovery.
He was a core part of Seattle’s defensive unit from 2017-2020. During his tenure, he was reunited with his twin brother Shaquem Griffin, who he played with at UCF as well. The Seahawks selected Shaquem in the fifth round, 141st overall in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Shaquem is famous for making the NFL despite having his left hand amputated when he was young. The twin brothers played together in Seattle until 2020.
Shaquill also made the Pro Bowl in 2019 with the Seahawks after recording 65 total tackles and 13 passes defensed in 14 games. So many of his career highlights came alongside coach Pete Carroll.
He reportedly explored a reunion with his old team in Seattle when he visited the Seahawks earlier in the offseason, but he remains unsigned to this point.
What Would Griffin’s Impact Be in 2025?
Shaquill Griffin has bounced around the NFL without finding a permanent home ever since. He has played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, Carolina Panthers and Minnesota Vikings since 2021.
Most recently, Griffin was a member of the Vikings in 2024. He played in every game for Minnesota, making 3 starts and recording 41 tackles and 2 interceptions.
He would provide some needed, experienced depth for the Raiders at cornerback.
Behind new free agent signing Eric Stokes and veteran Darnay Holmes, the Raiders have a lot of younger, unproven pieces at corner.
Griffin’s Pro Bowl days may be behind him, but he has the body of work and relationship with Pete Carroll to be reliable for the Raiders in 2025. Plus, he could help mentor some of the younger pieces on the Raiders secondary like 2025 draft pick Darien Porter.
Adding a former Pro Bowler is almost never a bad thing. Raiders fans eagerly await news of Griffin’s signing with Las Vegas.
