No one said it would be easy. When you think about your legacy and what you're known for, do you really want to be the person known for taking the easiest road every single time? Or do you want to be known as the person who took the biggest challenge every single time, so it feels more rewarding? Pete Carroll, the Las Vegas Raiders' new head coach, certainly did not choose the easy road.
Carroll has won a Nation Championship with USC. He rebuilt the Seattle Seahawks from the ground up won them a Super Bowl against the Denver Broncos, and went to another one against the New England Patriots. Now he's with the Raiders, trying to rebuild them in what is probably his toughest challenge yet.
But, he can do it. If there was any head coach in the league available, who had proven they could do exactly what the Raiders needed their head coach to do, it's the future Hall of Famer, for sure. Carroll is ready for the challenge, and he's not backing down one bit.
“I feel like I’ve been here before and I’m going to bank on that. I’m going to follow my instincts... People wondering about the timeline here. It took us about 2-3 years to get to the top last time,”
This will be his hardest challenge yet. If you ask me, the Raiders' job right now needs a lot more work than that Seahawks team did. But, this is a job made for him. This is what he wanted to do and if the Raiders didn't think he could, they wouldn't have hired anyone.
And, the way he talks about the challenge, just tells me that he is completely bought into the Raiders. They want to get players who will compete and be happy to wear the shield on their chest. That's where part of the philosophy starts with this rebuild.
Carroll is going to do it his way, and his way has worked at more than one stop.
