The Las Vegas Raiders have now put in requests for three different general manager candidates. They recently fired Tom Telesco a few days after firing Antonio Pierce, and need a general manager ASAP. The route a lot of teams are going is the young guy who has had team success, but hasn't had the chance at being a GM yet.
The Raiders have added another name to their list, and this guy has had success with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Sheldon White, a name I didn't have on my list of five candidates they should hire, is currently the director of pro scouting for the Pittsburgh Steelers, a role he has held since 2022. His career in NFL front offices began with the Detroit Lions in 1997 where he started as a scout. So, his resume does speak for itself.
His responsibilities grew over time, becoming the director of pro personnel in 2000 and then vice president of pro personnel in 2009. In 2015, he took on the role of interim general manager for the Lions.
Beyond the NFL, White has experience in college football. After leaving the Lions, he served as the executive director of player personnel and recruiting at Michigan State University from 2016 to 2020, where he applied his NFL scouting expertise in a college setting, managing player evaluation and recruitment. Post-Michigan State, he worked as a scout for the Washington Commanders for a year before moving to the Steelers.
Additionally, his experience as a former NFL player, having played for six seasons across the New York Giants, Detroit Lions, and Cincinnati Bengals, gives him somewhat of an advantage in seeing the player side of things.
He certainly could do the job.
